Free Opportunity to Look Back at the Past

15 August 2008

As part of the first Angus & Dundee Roots Festival, a Film Evening will be held at The Steps Theatre in Dundee on Thursday, September 11.

The Film Evening starts at 7pm and will feature a fascinating selection of footage shot in Angus and Dundee in days gone by, including archive film of Dundee's jute, jam and journalism industries, clips showing the lives of Angus ploughmen and 'tattie howkers', as well as other rarely-seen glimpses of life in Angus and Dundee.

"These films provide a fantastic chance to see what life was like for the generations who went before us," said Stewart Wilkie of Angus Ahead, who is the Film Evening's narrator. "In addition, we will be showing excerpts from several specially-commissioned films which will be of great interest to anyone involved in either the history of this area or the history of their family."

During the Film Evening, there will also be the premiere of several short films which highlight a few of the characters who have contributed to the history of Angus, including JM Barrie, Harry Lauder, Sir Watson Watt from Brechin and Forfar's infamous witches.
