J M BarrieAngus, the beautiful Mearns of Kincardineshire and Dundee also have their place in literary and artistic history. Peter Pan, author and playwright J M Barrie was born in a weavers cottage in Kirriemuir and the 1920s saw a burgeoning of literary and artistic activity in Angus, when Hugh MacDiarmid, Edwin Muir and Edward Baird (the artist) all lived in Montrose.

Visit Arbroath - Arbroath is the largest Angus town, and home of the famous Abbey which was founded in 1178. It was at the Abbey in 1320 that the Declaration of Scottish Independence was signed outlining the desire of the Scottish people for self-determination. More

Visit Brechin - Heading inland, almost on the northern boundary of Carnoustie Country, lies the ancient Cathedral City of Brechin. More

Visit Forfar - The county town of Forfar was once a favourite royal residence in the 12th and 13th centuries, and an important religious centre. This story of Forfar is captured in one of the most imaginative museums in Scotland. More

Visit Kirriemuir - Picturesque Kirriemuir is set on a hill on the edge of the Glens Clova and Prosen. The narrow streets are lined with pretty red brick houses, with their old-fashioned bars, tiled butcher's shop and famous ice cream parlour giving great charm to this delightful town. More

Visit Monifieth - Monifieth lies near the most southerly point of Angus near Carnoustie. It is most famous today as a centre of golfing excellence.

Monifieth enjoys a fine setting and a good range of leisure amenities. Monikie and Crombie Country Parks are close by and offer a range of leisure pursuits for all the family including watersports. Particularly popular is Monifieth's Blue Seaway, an outdoor recreation area with children's adventure playground and wheeled sports area for older children.

Visit Montrose - Montrose is a bustling coastal town with lots to offer the visitor. It is an ancient burgh with a wide and pleasant main street, interesting museums, and a family friendly Seafront Splash activity area by the beach. More

Visit the Angus Glens - The five Angus Glens;  Glen Isla, Glen Clova, Glen Prosen, Glen Lethnot and Glen Esk,  reach out like the fingers of a single hand from East to West, reaching inwards to the Eastern Cairngorms. The beautiful Glen Doll extends beyond Glen Clova. More
