Plan ahead. Consult the various websites highlighted here in order to build up some knowledge of the Scottish system, take note of where the different sources can be found, and the contact details, opening hours and locations of the various offices.

 

You should book your visits well ahead of time and ensure that staff are fully aware of your precise requirements.

 

 

 

By doing as much research as you can from home you'll save precious time during your trip to the area, leaving you to free to get out and about and fully explore the area where your ancestor lived and worked.
