Montrose is a bustling coastal town with lots to offer the visitor. It is an ancient burgh with a wide and pleasant main street, interesting museums, and a family friendly Seafront Splash activity area by the beach.The town lies on a spit of sandy land which extends south across the side of the Montrose Basin, almost the large tidal nature reserve off from the North Sea. The Scottish Wildlife Trust operate a fascinating Wildlife Centre at Rossie Braes, on the A92 south of the town.
Montrose is a seaside town with an excellent blue flag beach. It has a camping and caravan site, golf courses, including the fifth oldest golf course in the world, and a range of attractions such as the Traill Pavilion.
Britain's first operational military airfield was set up near Montrose by the Royal Flying Corps in 1913 and is now Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre, where visitors can view wartime artefacts and military aircraft and vehicles.
