Beautiful Guthrie Castle, which dates back to 1468, was the family residence of the Guthries until the 1980s. The Guthries have been prominent in the ecclesiastical, military and literary fields of Scotland since the early 1500's. In 1984 The Castle was purchased by the Peña Family who have recently opened it to the public on an exclusive basis for weddings.
A romantic, fairytale castle, it has quickly earned an enviable reputation as a wedding venue due to its beautiful surroundings which include a fantastic walled garden, manicured lawns and private loch. Wedding Parties of 40 or more use the new "Grand Pavilion" for dining and dancing. Up to 350 can be catered for comfortably in great style. Guthrie also has its own private 9-hole golf course which is often used by the groom and his friends on the morning of the ceremony whilst the ladies are getting pampered and prepared inside the Castle!
Ceremonies can take place either in the delightful Chapel or the stunning Historic Walled Garden. Alternatively, Guthrie Village Church is immediately outside the East Gate - a distance of only 600 metres from the Castle itself. If you're looking for something a little different, why not choose a Hand-Fasting ceremony in the Scottish tradition? This ceremony, which is drawn from pre-Christian practices, was a form of betrothal in the 1500s and is now used as an actual marriage ceremony. In a Hand-Fasting the hands are bound by The Ban' and the couple also "Jump the Besom (broom)", as seen in the move 'Braveheart'.
