Brechin Artist Celebrated

David Waterson - Portrait of Old Man-fullAngus Council and the David Waterson Trust have agreed to work together to promote the work of this unsung Brechin artist. David Waterson RE (1870-1954) was an extremely talented artist working in a variety of different media, and his paintings and etchings of local views are now much sought after. Angus Council has a superb collection of his works, much of it donated by his widow in 1956.

Some 47 works have been identified which more or less make up this important bequest which Mrs Waterson wished to be known as the David Waterson Memorial Collection.

This collection, and other works by the artist acquired later, will be housed in the Brechin Town House Museum when it re-opens to the public in April 2010. The new David Waterson Trust will work with Angus Council to publicise the collection and to encourage visitors and research.

Angus Council is soon to launch the museums collection on its website which, amongst other material will feature the Waterson collection. The David Waterson Trust is also producing a website and a link to the Angus Council site will be made.

The council has also agreed to provide a number of images of their Waterson works for the trust's website which will encourage enthusiasts to visit Brechin Town House Museum.
