Angus Lives

J M BarrieAngus and Dundee have been home to many creative, inventive, talented, scientific and occasionally notorious people.

Scotland is famous for the contribution which its inventors, engineers, missionaries, authors, poets, and musicians have made to the world, and few places more so than Angus.

One of the most important scientific developments of the 20th century, RADAR,  owes a great deal to the work of Brechin man Sir Robert Watson Watt for his experimentation using radio waves to detect electrical storms.

The story of Peter Pan was rooted in J M Barrie's Kirriemuir childhood; beloved music-hall performer Harry Lauder was raised and first took to the stage in Arbroath.

Vintage Harley Davidson

The Davidson family - grandparents of co-originator Arthur Harley of Harley Davidson motorbikes -  made the momentous journey across the Atlantic to the USA from a farm cottage between Forfar and Brechin in beautiful Angus countryside.

From a simple dwelling to a Royal Castle - Angus is the seat of Glamis Castle - family home of the late Queen Mother.

A dark period in Scots history is represented by what we know of the Forfar Witch Trials of the 17th century, which were mirrored in other parts of the country.

And the Dundonian doyenne of doggerel - William Topaz McGonagall - is renowned the world over for his poetic endeavours!
