Do you have ancestors who originated in the county of Angus (Forfarshire) or in the City of Dundee? The 2nd Angus & Dundee Roots Festival in 2009 will provide a focus for people whose ancestors came from Angus & Dundee to visit the area and make a personal connection to their ancestral homeland. Come home to Angus and Dundee in 2009 and meet up with local experts and other like-minded people from across the globe.
The emphasis will be on fun and entertainment, focusing on giving you an authentic experience of what life was like for your ancestors in days gone by, and an up-close-and-personal encounter with your ancient homeland.
The linked events in 2009 will include:
Last year's packed programme launched with a Gala Dinner and continued with: workshops on tracing your ancestors; Angus & Dundee family names; local dialects; a visit to Arbroath to see how the fisher folk lived. Tour of Arbroath Abbey, scene of the Declaration of Arbroath in 1320; a seminar on Dundee industrial heritage with tour of Verdant Works to see how the jute workers lived and worked; a guided tour of The Howff graveyard; a Civic Reception in the company of the Provosts of Angus and the City of Dundee and culminated in a lively Grand Farewell Ceilidh!
