Take a trip down memory lane when you visit this heritage railway, which is maintained and operated entirely by volunteers, and starts its annual season of events at Easter. The unique Victorian terminus at Brechin has lots of period charm and atmosphere, and both steam and historic diesel engines take vintage coaches along a four mile stretch of line to the Bridge of Dun and back.
When you're in Brechin - visit Pictavia Visitor Centre for a glimpse of the enigmatic lives of the earliest Scots, the Pictish people. Angus was one of the strongholds of our Pictish ancestors, whose lives are shrouded in mystery, but who left us a legacy of beautifully carved stones, and a proud record of resistance to invasion.
Open from April 1 each year until September 30, Wednesday to Saturday, 10am - 4pm.
At other times, volunteers may be available to facilitate visits.
The Centre is also open on Sundays through the winter, and its collection of photographs and artefacts tell the story of Royal Flying Corps/RAF Montrose through the words and deeds of the men and women who served there through two world wars, the air station played a vital role in training pilots for the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Air Force. A Celebration of William Lyon Mackenzie.
In the 19th century, the Dundee merchant Andrew J Wighton amassed a great collection of early printed Scottish music books. The collection is now housed in a purpose built study centre and performance space in Dundee Central Library. The Friends exist to help make the collection more accessible to the people of Dundee, Fife and Angus.
Events: Wednesday 3rd February 2010, 1.15 - 1.45pm: Mark Spalding, harpsichord
